A Swiss Christmas and starting again…

My adopted Christmas family ūüôā

I realise it has been quite a while since my last post. ¬†So much has happened that to be honest, I don’t even know where to start. ¬†Sometimes, when you think your life is going one way, it somehow completely surprises you and you end up on a completely different route. ¬†That’s the beauty of life right?

My Christmas holidays started well. ¬†I was very lucky to spend it with Chris’ family in Basel. ¬†I got to meet his sister Nat and her fiancee Dan and we had the most amazing Christmas dinner. ¬†His parents spoiled us with presents and we were lucky enough to be taken to a fantastic performance of the musical Grease.

Chris and I then travelled to Nendaz where he is currently working.  It was really cool to finally see where he lives and meet all his friends, who I had of course heard heaps about.  I experienced my first white Christmas and was even starting to get the hang of skiing again.

But like I said before… things don’t always work out the way we want or expect them too. ¬†Suddenly I found myself single again and with a broken heart on my way back to Germany mid holiday. ¬†These things happen and maybe it is for the best. ¬†Chris is a an amazing guy but it’s simply not the right time for us at the moment. ¬†I am very sad he is no longer a part of my life but am hoping that our paths cross again in the near future.

Luckily, I was picked on my way back to Darmstadt in Freiburg by Danny and Peer.  They looked after me over the next couple of days taking me to dinner with friends, wine tasting in France and playing lots of Phase 10.  I was a bit of a mess and Charliebear was working on overdrive.

Back in Darmstadt I have been busy back at work.  There are many high points of my job but also a lot of planning and marking which has been filling much of my time.  I celebrated Australia Day with a barbeque, kicking a footy and playing cricket with my mate Rob.  I even started playing hockey again (indoor hockey has not improved in my opinion) and our team got promoted last week! I surprised myself by somehow managing to score five goals in our last game.

The weather has been getting to me. ¬†The past couple of weeks have been freezing, even the locals have been complaining. ¬†We had a week of under minus DOUBLE figures. ¬†I kid you not. ¬†I have never been so cold in my life. ¬†There was only one upside to this weather…

ICE-SKATING!!!!

This was an absolute highlight for me last Saturday. ¬†I had the opportunity to live a childhood dream. ¬†I got to go ice-skating on a REAL lake. ¬†A REAL frozen lake… and not just any lake… the Woog in Darmstadt! ¬†A lake I have also swam in. ¬†This was one of the best experiences and I am not sure I will beat it this year. ¬†You should have seen me… grinning from ear to ear. ¬†Unbelievable. ¬†As a result, I am also the proud owner of my own (children’s size of course) Barbie pink ice skates! ¬†Not sure how much wear I will get out of them but I am quite a proud owner.

So that’s my latest. ¬†Apologies to all people I owe emails to. ¬†I have been useless at communicating lately with everybody so please don’t feel particularly left out. ¬†This weekend I’m off skiing in Switzerland. ¬†It’s a four day weekend and I am looking forward to the break. ¬†Not too long now before my birthday and even the Easter holidays don’t seem too far away…

Maybe I should start planning.

xoxo
